Meet Raz Gibson

Licensed Education Psychologist #4556
American Board of School Neuropsychology

I’m Raz Gibson, and I started MindMap because I believe every learner deserves to be understood and supported in a way that works for them. For me, this work is deeply personal. The heart of what I do is all about helping families find clarity, direction, and real solutions that make a difference for the long term.

As a Diplomate of the American Board of School Neuropsychologists, I’ve spent years specializing in how the brain works—how we learn, remember, and process information. But what drives me most is seeing the transformation that happens when someone finally feels seen and understood. I look forward to working together to provide the support and solutions to move forward with confidence.

I understand how overwhelming learning challenges can be—not just for individuals but also for their families. The questions can feel endless, the answers hard to find, and figuring out where to start can feel like an uphill battle. That’s why I’m here. My goal is to help you find clarity, uncover hidden potential, and create a path that feels right for you or your child.

MindMap was built to foster understanding, focus on strength-based solutions, and build hope for the future. With every step, I’m here to make the process feel less daunting, more empowering, and always personalized for your child and family’s highest good.

Educational background

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from San Diego State University and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from Alliant International University.

Additionally, I earned a Post Graduate Certificate in School Neuropsychology, along with diplomate status from the American Board of School Neuropsychologists (ABSNP).

Professional journey

My career in education began as an Instructional Assistant in the San Diego Unified School District, where I worked closely with special education students. This role, paired with my experience providing in-home ABA services for students with severe behavioral challenges, gave me a deep understanding of the connection between school and home environments in shaping a child’s development.

Since 2011, I’ve served as a credentialed school psychologist (PPS) in various districts, including Poway Unified, National School District, and currently, Del Mar Union School District. My areas of expertise include:

  • Neuropsychological evaluations
  • Functional assessments for students with severe disabilities
  • Coaching for memory and executive functioning challenges
Cultural perspective

As an immigrant from Iran, I bring a unique perspective to my work and am fluent in Farsi. I am especially passionate about supporting families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, helping them navigate the complexities of educational systems with compassion and clarity.

Life beyond work

On a personal note, I’m a proud dog mom to Jasper, my energetic Miniature Australian Shepherd, who excels in agility sports and loves showing off his tricks. In my downtime, I enjoy:

  • Hiking
  • Practicing yoga and mindfulness
  • Gardening, with a special love for cacti and roses
  • Spending time with my niece and nephew

My personal experiences continually shape my approach to helping others, blending empathy and expertise to make a meaningful difference.

The inspiration behind MindMap

I’ve always loved digging into complex challenges and finding practical, actionable solutions. But what really lights me up is helping families take those “aha” moments and turn them into momentum. There’s something incredibly powerful about watching someone go from feeling stuck and frustrated to saying, “This finally makes sense.” I believe that with the right support and strategies, every person has the potential to find academic and personal success—not despite their challenges but because of the strengths those challenges can reveal. That’s why I approach every client with empathy, honesty, and a genuine desire to help them see the bigger picture.

MindMap is proud to serve families in San Diego and Orange County California and the surrounding areas. While many of my services are offered in person, virtual coaching and consultations are also available for older students and adults, making it easier to get the support if you’re a bit farther away. Reach out to me if you have questions about availability and travel.

What makes MindMap different

I know the process of getting help can feel overwhelming, and that’s why I’m here to make things easier. At MindMap, I do things a little differently:
You’ll have time to
ask questions

I’m not just handing you a report and sending you on your way. I make sure you have all the time you need to understand the results and what they mean for your next steps.

You’ll
feel heard

I focus on creating a safe, compassionate space where you can share concerns, learn about the possibilities, and feel supported.

You’ll get more than
a diagnosis

My goal is to provide a clear, personalized plan that helps you or your child flourish at school, at home, and in daily life.

You’ll always get
my best

I’m committed to offering exceptional, individualized care that’s rooted in ethical practices and genuine connection.

At the end of the day, my work is about more than assessments and coaching; it’s about helping individuals, families, and children struggling with learning differences see what’s possible. If you’re ready to find solutions, gain clarity, and create a path forward, I’m here to help.
